Welcome to the May Day Biathlon

Thanks to all the runners and volunteers who made the 2012 May Day Biathlon a success. Results are posted.

We had 100 participants in the 5K and 76 in the biathlon, plus 13 teams. Valdese men made a great showing as Sonni Dyer won the biathlon and Josh Baker won the 5K. On the women's side, Nicole Crane won biathlon the and the 5K was won by Asheville's Mandy Meyer.

And we can't forget the Youth Biathlon which took place on Saturday. School teams from across Burke County took part in the event held on the driving range at Freedom High School. If you've never watched this event, it's certainly worth spending a couple hours watching. Some of the youngsters you see in the youth biathlon will be growing into the Sunday event before long--and some of them already have!
