Thanks to all who participated in the 2010 May Day Biathlon! Click here for 2010 Biathlon Pictures (bike only) Can you believe we turned twenty this year? The 2010 races did not see a new course records set, but we did see a repeat champion in the Men's Biathlon as Jay Curwen (who has won the event six previous times and is the course-record holder) once again took first place. Local biathlete, Karen Brazinski, took first in the Women's Biathlon. The 5K events were won by Mark Lundblad and Darlene Cockman, who don't live in Burke County but work here and are seen burning up our greenway on a regular basis. Despite warm temperatures and high humidity, 204 athletes took part in this year's event, an increase of about sixty over last year! We had 5K runners as young as six years old and several competitors in their 70s. This truly is an event for all ages!
And we can't forget the Youth Biathlon which took place on Saturday. School teams from across Burke County took part in the event held on the driving range at Freedom High School. If you've never watched this event, it's certainly worth spending a couple hours watching. Some of the youngsters you see in the youth biathlon will be growing into the Sunday event before long--and some of them already have! Thanks to everyone who took part in this year's event. We hope to see you in 2011 as we kick off the next twenty years! The May Day Biathlon Directors, Need more information? E-mail maydaybiathlon@hotmail.com. |
