BIATHLON
INFORMATION


There will be two separate events: a youth biathlon on Saturday, May 1st and an adult biathlon/5-K, held on Sunday, May 2nd. Both begin and end at Freedom High School in Morganton.

Adult Biathlon & 5-K

A scaled-down version of traditional biathlons, our adult biathlon combines a five kilometer race with a thirty kilometer bike ride. The footrace is on a flat surface, out-and-back and is USATF certified. The bike race is a challenging course on a highway surface. ANSI-certified helmets are required and no drafting is allowed.

Registration opens at 6:30 a.m. and the race begins at 8:00 a.m. All entrants must have registered and received their race number by 7:50 a.m.

There is a prize of $500 to any male and/or female who sets a new course record for the biathlon. N/A

TROPHIES AND AGE DIVISIONS

Biathlon 1st - 5th place in each age group.
15-19; 20-24; 25-29; 30-34; 35-39; 40-44; 45-49;
50-54; 55-59; 60-64; 65-69; 70 & over.
Teams 1st and 2nd place in each category.
Male, Female, Mixed, and Tandem
5-K 1st - 3rd place in each age group.
10 & under; 11-14; 15-19; 20-24; 25-29; 30-34; 35-39; 40-44; 45-49; 50-54; 55-59; 60-64; 65-69; 70 & over.

2009 door prizes for the Adult Biathlon included an iPod Shuffle and a Global Positioning System (GPS.)

All entrants receive an official race t-shirt.

 

YOUTH BIATHLON

The youth biathlon takes place on Saturday, May 2nd, the day before the adult race. The youth biathlon is shorter than the adult biathlon and takes place on the Freedom High School driving range. The race distance depends on the age of the entrant. In the case of teams, the age group is that of the older team member.

Please Note:  No training wheels are allowed on bikes in the 7 – 10 year old race NOR on the Elementary School Teams. Also, no six year-olds may be on an Elementary School Team.  All six year-old kids need to do the six & under individual race, be on a two-person team or on a pre-school team.
